Following the introduction of the Disney Princess gold and silver coin program with Cinderella, the second release features Princess Aurora.

Princess_AuroraThe leading character in Disney’s 1959 animated feature Sleeping Beauty, Aurora believes she is Briar Rose, a cheerful, kind and gentle peasant girl who befriends the animals of the forest in which she lives.

Little does she know that she was born a princess, or that she is cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep at just 16 years of age. As her fateful birthday approaches, Aurora yearns to meet someone special and discover the wonder of true love.

The character of Princess Aurora is based on Charles Perrault’s The Beauty Sleeping in the Wood, published in 1697. As fans of the Disney classic know well, the curse is partially reversed by a good fairy – Aurora will awaken with a kiss from the prince of her dreams!

Disney’s delightful version of the age-old fairy tale has been hailed as one of the best animated films ever made, crowning Princess Aurora as one of the most popular of all Disney princesses.
