Star Trek program up to date with new Discovery set

Posted by Blog Team on

CBS thrilled Star Trek fans last year with the release of a new live-action series, the first for 16 years.

Set in the 23rd century, about 90 years after Star Trek: Enterprise and 10 years before Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery continues to reflect creator Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic vision of the future, together with his allegories of the human condition and high-concept science fiction.

In line with the 52-year favourite franchise’s progressive handling of societal issues, Star Trek: Discovery is notable for minority characters, taking a colour and gender-blind approach. Its diverse crew includes First Officer Michael Burnham, a female Commander with a traditionally male name, who is played by Sonequa Martin-Green, the first African-American woman to play a lead character in a Star Trek series.

Reaction to the new adventures, which were broadcast on CBS Television Network’s digital streaming service, has been overwhelmingly positive, especially towards Martin-Green’s character. Having attracted millions of viewers already, Star Trek: Discovery is likely to go from strength to strength in its second series.

2018 Star Trek: Discovery 1oz Silver Proof Two-Coin Set

For fans young and old, we’re delighted to add a new Two-Coin Set to our official Star Trek coin program celebrating Michael Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery NCC-1031.

Complementing previous releases featuring captains and ships from Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise, the superbly crafted coins are housed in a representation of a classic transporter machine which lights up when the lid is opened.

Just 1,500 sets will be released.
